NE 72 Ave Community Garden

Start to finish, the design and construction of this garden has been focused on the needs of this underserved community. This 0.68 acre site was a sand and gravel pit for roughly 30 years, then recognized as a public health hazard when evidence of underground fires and leaking gases illustrated the site’s threat to the surrounding community.Ìý

After a lengthy state-run cleanup effort, local non-profit Verde banded together with students, residents, agencies, and professionals like landscape architect Jason King, Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, to create this 35-plot community garden. This effort resulted in the community being sustained both physically and socially. ÌýÌý
